What is Softwashing?
Pressure Washing vs. Softwashing
While pressure washing and softwashing are highly related, they are very different processes. Pressure washing uses high water pressure to blast the grime off of surfaces, which is great for cleaning concrete, but most surfaces, like siding and roofs, can be damaged by high pressure. The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recommends low-pressure detergent-assisted washing as the preferred method for cleaning asphalt roofs to prevent damage to the shingles.
Instead of relying on high pressure, "softwashing" is a process that uses low pressure and detergents to safely remove mold, algae, mildew, and other organic matter from siding, roofs, and other exterior surfaces without causing damage. Using the proper detergents and algicides also allows for a longer-lasting clean because it allows us to kill the organic matter at the root.
